What can you use the app for?

Fellody is a social networking application that connects users to potential love matches based on their musical tastes. Users establish a Fellody profile by providing some pertinent information about themselves (i.e. name, location, gender, what gender they are into, etc.). From there users can either load a client to their iTunes or Windows Media Player application or they can sync their Last.FM account to the application in order to determine what music the user is into. Afterwards, users can review their matches, browse through other Fellody users. Users can also establish friends (called "Groupies") to stay connected and engaged in the Fellody community. Through a Premium Fellody account, users can see who has looked at their profile, they can send messages to people they are interested in, and they can improve their Fellody ranking so that their profile is spotlighted in a better light and shows up on more matches. Fellody is the perfect marriage between music enthusiasts and a dating network. Instead of dating someone where musical tastes are incompatible, Fellody makes it so people can at least agree on what's playing on the radio if nothing else.

What is the history and popularity of the app?

Fellody is a Swiss company based out of Zurich. Fellody was developed by two people names Robin and Tom. They both love music, and agreed it was easier to find like-minded friends and potentially dating partners based off of musical tastes. So, Fellody was established. Fellody has been featured on Smashing Magazine, Killer Startups and a number of other media outlets.

What are the differences to other apps?

Fellody is sort of like a dating site, but they don't try to force matches down anyone's throat. Instead they have made a community where loving and discussing music comes first, and (hopefully) connections shortly follow. If a user uploads a photo of themselves to Fellody, they just might spot themselves on Fellody's homepage in background mosaic of many of Fellody's users.

How does the web app look and feel to use?

Fellody is a bit labor intensive to get setup. Users need to provide a bit of information just to get registered. Then they either need to user Last.FM or install a client that will sync to their iTunes or Windows Media Player to generate potential dating matches based on the user's musical taste. However, once established Fellody appears to be quite simple to use and singles could spend a lot of time browsing through the Fellody matches, sending messages and flirting with others on the Fellody community. The background which is a mosaic of Fellody users is very creative. Overall the site is fast, responsive and well designed.

How does the registration process work?

Users can register for a Fellody account by providing a username, password, email address and first and last name. Additionally users will need to accept the Fellody online terms and conditions and privacy policy. Users could also register using their Facebook account. New users will need to validate their email address through a one-time confirmation email. Once their email is confirmed, Fellody will also ask them for their date of birth, gender, if they are interested in men or women and their city.

What does it cost to use the application?

Fellody is free to use. There is a Premium plan on Fellody, however as of March 2, 2012, all users were able to access the Fellody Premium features (such as unlimited messaging, seeing who has visited their profile and sending unlimited flirts) "for a limited time." The cost of the Premium plan on Fellody is not available at this time either.

Who would you recommend the application to?

Fellody is ideal for anyone who is passionate about music and who tends to find their best friends by ways of like-minded musical conversations. Perhaps one's circle of best friends was met at a concert or while trolling through a certain music genre's aisle at the record store. Anyway, Fellody feels that if two people can agree on music then they stand a better shot at being compatible in the long run. Fellody is part social community, part dating site and all musically centered.
